Ramblings of a Strange Experience

Well…. that was quite the new experience. One that i hope never happens again.

I decided to go for a walk to the grocery store downtown because I’d needed a couple things and the sun is shining, so it seemed like a great idea. I love our grocery store in the mall because it has the most amazing selection of produce from many different places. I was browsing to find a certain pepper as I want to attempt to make sweet Thai chili sauce for the first time. I was walking around (and yes, i go through every aisle, looking for the peppers and in one of the aisles there was a man squatted down in the centre of the aisle dealing with an unruly child. There seemed to be plenty of room on either side of him so i thought i would scoot by. I said excuse me and as i went by the man, his daughter flew around him and unexpectedly hit my leg with her arm. I believe that I said “ Wow” or “ Whoa” as i moved away, but didn’t think anything of it.

I was at the end of one aisle looking at peppers when i heard the child yelling about not wanting to go and the i saw the dad carry her past me at a very brisk pace. As he passed me, he threw the rest of his daughters sweet milky drink in my face and said, “ yes.” I have no idea where this came from or why he did it but obviously he was wanted to do it fast. Not sure if that had something to do with my size or not. 😂

The people around me, and there were many were literally stunned and in shock. We all wondered what was going on. Of course my first thought was, “ what the hell is going on?” A staff member immediately came to check on me to see if i was ok as did many of the shoppers around me. I was in shock, but didn’t realize the impact it had on me until i was walking home. I found myself shaking. As anyone who knows me, knows that i don’t like confrontation, especially of the physical variety.

I do want to say thank you to the Nation’s staff person who helped as well as the man who grabbed a roll of paper-towels so i could dry off.

While this type of event does not in any way compare to other forms of assault, but when you have someone do something agressive towards you, it is scary!. I am thankful it was not worse than it was and that i am ok.

Time to live the rest of the day.
