Thoughts in a Crisis

First of all I need to say that the personal thoughts stated in this post are mine and are not in any way connected to my employer.

I have been a public servant for a very long time working in the Federal Government. During “normal” life we often here people making negative statement or joking about government employees not working. In this crisis, I would like to help you understand something.

Public servants are people. We have families families, bills, health issues, financial responsibilities, thoughts and feelings just like every Canadian. We also receive the same rights and freedoms as every other Canadian including working to pay our own salary(taxes people).

During this very difficult and bizarre time, I was going to say strange time but it is far beyond that now, I want you to know that there are many public servants that are working overtime and putting in effort above and beyond so you as a citizen can receive the benefits that the government has promised. As in any business, this pandemic was introduced in our lives very quickly and many of our processes and systems were not able to handle the increased requirements.

I know that everyone is so thankful for our front line workers in healthcare, food industries etc. For the work and risk they are taking. Do not forgot those frontline workers who are working hard and putting themselves at risk to work towards you receiving government benefits. Yes, there have been infected people come into our service centres and force the closure of that centre.

It is important for patience and kindness to reign in this unprecedented time as we all work together and do our individual part to both survive and grow as a society and as individuals.

Please…be kind to everyone and do your part!
